Dovecote Street Arts

Dovecote Street Arts CIC is a start-up social enterprise formed by Amble-based artists Luke McTaggart and Jim Donnelly.

In May 2023, The Dovecote Centre hosted the first “Dovecote Street Show” art exhibition which was extremely well received by the general public with over 950 people attending the exhibition and engaging with the project, and we have continued to work together since.

We run a wide variety of events such as:

Crits:

Monthly sessions offer the chance for artists, professional and amateur alike, to come together along with interested members of the community to discuss their work in a positive and supportive setting. We had great turnout for the first event at the end of September and are very much looking forward to the next.

Cultural Assembly Meetings:

We want to address the geographical gap between areas of arts development and investment in Northumberland, namely Berwick, Hexham and Blyth. We are targeting these meetings at those who feel they fall outside of, or don’t benefit from, these existing schemes. We are treating Amble as a focal point for this but have heard similar views in the likes of Alnwick, Morpeth and Newbiggin. By attending you will get the chance to make your voice heard on the provisions lacking in this area. This is also a great opportunity to network with other members of the culture sector.
We will be focusing on key issues, such as studio, workshop and exhibition space, as well as on professional development opportunities and local authority support. There will be the chance for all attendees to speak about, amend and vote on resolutions addressing each of these topics. The outcomes will be compiled into a report, subject to review from attendees, that will then be made publicly available and used to raise awareness amongst the region’s cultural and political leaders. We will also be using these meetings as an opportunity to collect demographic information about the culture sector that can support future funding applications.
