Ann was born in North Shields, within spitting distance of the wild North Sea, and spent her childhood in the North East of England. She went to Lancaster and Leicester Universities and then taught English in a comprehensive school in Coventry. She has done many other jobs since leaving school, such as working in a library, selling ice-cream and hot-dogs at Butlins, and packing airline meals at Luton Airport, but the job she likes best and the one she has done for the longest is being a writer.
Janine made her first professional appearance on the stage in the cast of ‘Staying Here?’ with NTC in 1992 and over the next few years she appeared regularly with the company in such classics as: ‘My Uncle Freddie’; ‘Country Voices’; and ‘Get Up And Tie Your Fingers’. A huge supporter of the company’s work, she joined the board in 1997. She still works as an actor on stage, film and television.
Roger is a retired Chartered Engineer who spent all his working life in power stations in the electricity supply industry. He retired early in 1999 and has since taken up a number of voluntary positions with various charitable organisations in the North East. Roger is married to Jenny and they have two grown up children and three grandchildren; they have lived in Lesbury for 36 years and previously in Cramlington. Both originate from Yorkshire but Jenny’s maternal roots are in the Alnwick and Alnmouth area.
Charles Linaker has been a tax partner with unw LLP, an independent firm of chartered accountants in Newcastle, and one of its predecessors since 1992. Previously, he was a senior tax manager with Price Waterhouse for 4 years and one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Taxes for more than 8 years in Oxford and London.
Ros Maudslay was born in Lancashire and studied languages at Edinburgh University, with one or two not very notable appearances in dramatic society productions. She taught part-time in Edinburgh and also in Mexico where she and her family spent nearly 7 years before returning to the UK in 1985 and settling in the North East of England. She worked in marketing and translation and completed an MA in Philosophy at Durham University, also getting involved in more voluntary sector and church activities.
Sue Wilson has a business background but currently has a wide variety of interests including property, travel, the arts and business journalism.
Neil Mundy has a background in the public , private and voluntary and community sectors with training in accountancy, property rating and valuation and economics.
Bryan Ellis has a background in business with experience including toys, retailing, confectionary, acquisitions, pharmaceuticals, steel and railways.
Stuart has been a friend and supporter of the company for well over 10 years and recently decided to take the plunge and train to become a stage manager full time. He has also recently passed his HGV training.
Louis first began his tenure here at NTC well over a decade ago on the InterAct training scheme as a terrified teenager, and although he has since definitely gotten older, he still stubbornly refuses to grow up.
Karen graduated with a degree in Accountancy and Finance (well somebody has to), from Humberside College of Higher Education in 1989. After working in the audit department at Bentley Jennison Chartered Accountants in Birmingham for 5 years; in 1994 she moved to Northumberland to be with her husband Rupert. She worked for Baker Tilly Chartered Accountants at their North East offices for 9 years where she worked in numerous areas: audit, small company accounts preparation, sole traders and partnerships, payroll, vat, management accounts and charities. When she left Baker Tilly she was one of the Business Services Department Managers specialising in charities and anything else that came along.
Michelle has designed over 25 productions for NTC in both her current role and as a freelance designer. She has also designed productions for other touring theatre companies.
Natalie has recently joined NTC. She has seen her first theatre show ‘The Disasters of Johnny Armstrong and Other Daft Tales’ and loved it! She has rolled up her sleeves and experienced the workshop for ‘Heartspur’.
Gillian has been Artistic Director of Northumberland Theatre Company since 1990 although she was a member of the first NTC Company in 1978 as an actor.
